Wang Pijiang and His Construction of the Modern Poetry System

In Wang Pijiang' s opinion, modern poetry saw the greatest achievements in the Qing Dynasty, and in many respects excelled Song poetry. He deconstructed Chen Yan' s theories and reconstructed a new system of modern poetry. His understanding of modem poetry and his division of modern poetry schools and regions were influenced by the theory of evolution of the time introduced from the West, by the traditional Puxue and the Yangzhou School of the Qing Dynasty and by the new ideology of literary history of his time.
