Along with the development of the National Revolution, the differentiation of the core members of the new culture camp in the 1920＇s, the May Fourth New Culture Movement experienced its own crisis. However, the Modern Reviewfaction with Hu Shi as its spiritual leader adhered to the May Fourth tradition of enlightenment. With patriotic feelings of the scholars, they inherited and carried forward the May Fourth tradition in laying stress on education problems, calling for the rule of law, and advocating tem- perate patriotic movement and other aspects. And it is just this kind of persistence and adherence of the liberal intellectuals that has made the May Fourth tradition pass on and on.
