| 摘 要： | 通过回顾ESP的实践可以发现:无论是在上个世纪80年代还是在30年后的今天,在这个方面都存在很大的争议,核心就是大学英语的教学理念,即大学英语是为提高学生的英语水平,提高他们的人文素质而存在还是为帮助学生用英语从事专业学习而存在。这个问题由于涉及我国的政治理念、意识形态和教育体制,ESP实践步履艰难,当ESP在全球飞速发展,成为一种世界外语教学的普遍现象,在中国却存在普遍的误解和偏见。但是经过ESP失败的昨天,改革的今天,必将迎来发展的明天,因为历史告诉我们,如果用昨天的东西教今天的学生必将剥夺他们明天的机会。

| Abstract: | The literature review of ESP in China reveals that there has been a fierce controversy over ESP practice in the past 35 years.The key is the orientation of college English.Should it aim to improve students'' English proficiency and conduct liberal education or aim to equip students with necessary skills appropriate to the academic studies?It is difficult to implement ESP in the context where political and ideological values prevail and there is general misunderstanding of and even bias against ESP.ESP failure in yesterday and reform in today might usher in its bright tomorrow.As John Dewey comments, "If we teach today''s students as we did yesterday''s, we are robbing them of tomorrow". |
