西夏妇女善骑射、敢战斗,体现出中国传统社会所罕见的女兵现象,其妇女尚武斗,喜复仇,并涌现出一批杰出的巾帼女将。与此相联系,其妇女独特的审美观与殉情习俗等均反映出西夏妇女勇健无畏、刚烈骁勇、任侠果敢的风尚。其独特风尚,源于古代西北社会固有的强劲民风、地理环境、经济生存方式、战争军旅生活及其统治者着意强化民族意识等诸多因素。

On the Female Soldiers of the Xixia Kingdom and its Social Customs

The women of the Xixia Kingdom were good at riding, shooting and fighting, a rare case in those days. These women admired forces and liked revenge, of whom some became outstanding generals. Their unique aesthetic standards and the custom of dying for love reveal their qualities of bravery, staunchness and chivalry which originated from various factors in northwest China in ancient times such as local customs, geographical features, economic conditions, army life and the strengthening of ethnic identity by the rulers.
