| Abstract: | The paper proposes that sadness of the children characters constitutes the most significant esthetical feature of the two literary works entitled The Childhood, and A Tale of the Hulan River respectively. The sadness originates from the autobiographic nature of the books as well as the personality of the authors. It presents a mosaic of the young and old, life and death in the human world and demonstrates an esthetical value of sadness from the children's point of view. |
