蝴蝶翩翩梦寰宇——谈老庄思想与几位英美作家的心灵契合

老庄思想自古是中国知识分子遭受挫折后藉以调节心理,安顿生命,养护心灵的哲学,老庄著作自19世纪末翻译成英文传入西方后受到了学术界的广泛关注,并进入一些著名作家的创作视野。文章撷取了奥尼尔、王尔德、毛姆三位英美作家的代表作品加以分析,综合评述了有关他们的创作与道家思想的某些契合关系,揭示出他们各自生活中不同的精神创伤是老庄思想与他们取得共同的心灵契合的原因。

Spiritual Affinity Between Laozi, Zhuangzi and Several British and American Writers

Taoism,initially developed by Laozi and Zhuangzi,has always been a psychological remedy for intellectuals since ancient China who suffered from frustration and failure.After it was translated into English and introduced to the West in the end of the 19th century,it gained extensive attention from critics and writers,and was assimilated into their writings.This paper presents an overview of the studies on the works by the three writers-Eugene O＇Neill, Oscar Wilde and W. S. Maugham.The characteristics they share mount to show that intimate affinity exists between Taoism and their writings.Based on thorough analysis, a conclusion can be drawn that it was their respective spiritual trauma that brought them to access to Taoism.
