PowerGREP and Its Appfication to Corpus Linguistics

Corpus and corpus linguistics develop very fast in the past 20 years. However, the popularity of this powerful linguistic tool lags thousands of miles behind its construction. One reason is probably the developtrent of the friendly software packages. At present some popular corpus tools can only do some simple concor dance work, word frequency counting etc, with many word patterns and other linguistic information buried deeply in the corpara. Other packages developed can only serve the respective corpora, and cannot be used with other corpora of different formats. As a compensation for this, PowerGREP is such a wonderful tool for many corpus purposes, and to some extent can replace sane professional software packages.
