A Study on the Relevancy of the defendant's Character Evidence

The relevancy of character evidence has been a hard issue in evidence relevancy. Thispaper, fromthe perspective of legal relevance and logical relevance, studies the general principles of the relevancy of char-acter evidence and discusses the the exclusion regulation on the defendant's character evidence in criminal pro-cedure, the basis of the regulation and the exceptional situations. The paper focuses on the exceptional situationsto the exclusion regulation: the character evidence is able to prove the main facts of a crime; to prove the fac-tuality of the deposition from the marked witness; to rebut theprosecutor by offering evidence of the defendant'sgood character. In these situations, the character evidence of the defedant will be relevant.
