Growth Novels from the Perspective of Carol's Spiral Life

From the perspective of growth novels,we analyzed the protagonist Carol’s life experience in Main Street,a representative work by the Nobel Literature Prize winner Sinclair Lewis.By psychological analysis,we probed into the formation of her "childlike" romantic psychology,and her psychological growth process since marriage to reveal her change of personality and personal ideas during her self development and integration into the town she lived in.In a sense,her comprise to social rules is a sign of becoming mature.We hold that Carol’s growth is a spiral process,which reflects the novelist’s pondering and understanding of the relationship between an individual and the society.
