The Principle of Narratological Criticism: Attached to History and Based on Tao——On the Philosophical Parameter in the Chinese Ancient Fiction Criticism

This paper queried the deeply-rooted assertion that the Chinese ancient fiction criticism "stuck to history and stayed away from philosophy." It argued that all the interpretations on fiction throughout the Chinese history either directly or indirectly stressed the internal relevance between fiction and "Tao," and "to interpret texts on the basis of Tao" was an important principle and point of view for the Chinese ancient fiction criticism. "To interpret texts based on history" was indirectly permeated with the requirements of "interpreting texts based on Tao." The philosophical parameter has been in existence and developing in the history of the Chinese ancient fiction criticism.
