Goethe as a Thinker

In the world literary history, the outstanding German poet and writer Goethe is also prominent for being a great philosopher and a great thinker as well. His thought is rich, profound, penetrating and future-aiming, covering universe, life, society, politics, arts and even natural science. The Faust spirit shown in the series of his works such as Faust represents in a concentrative way the whole western spirit, namely, the modern capitalist spirit. In German literary history and even the world literary history, few people can be at the same time a poet and a thinker, like Goethe.
