本文着重研究哈代的最后一部小说《无名的裘德》在西方评论界从争议到认同的接受过程,同时探讨了它在中国的接受过程。从中国与西方的不同接受视角中,指出通过研究这部小说在中西的批评接受,可以深入地认识英国维多利亚社会后期新旧理念的对抗、西方社会女性主义的兴起以及文学理论的蓬勃发展,更可以管窥中国本土批评体系的构建。
