| 摘 要： | 爱德华·希尔斯 (EdwardShils ,1910 - 1995 )是美国杰出的教育家、学者、作家和编辑 ,也是一位出色的社会学家。他用毕生的精力来捍卫传统的研究型大学 ,认为传统的研究型大学在现代社会中发挥着重要的功能。他认为科学和学术工作应该根据它们自己的目的来评估 ,而且大学应该从政府的干预下解脱出来。希尔斯是 2 0世纪有关高等教育和智力活动的最有思想的分析者之一。
