中国古典诗词英译的几个问题

在将中国古典诗词译成英语时 ,译者不可避免地要遇到如何确定句子主语、动词时态和名字单复数的困难 ,因为在中国古典诗词中 ,句子的主语常常省略 ,而动词的时态和名词的单复数又是隐形的。这些困难可通过上下文或逻辑推理解决。但由于不同译者的思维方式不同 ,审美模式各异 ,逻辑推理的结果可能会得出不同结论。只要译文不失原义 ,逻辑上能讲得通 ,应当允许不同译者使用不同的主语、时态和单复数翻译同一首诗词

On the Translation of Classical Chinese Poetry into English

In translating classical Chinese poems or ci into English, a translator will inevitably encounter such difficulties as how to determine the subject of a sentence, the tense of a verb or the forms of number of a noun, as in Chinese poetry,the subjects of sentences are often omitted while the tense of verbs and the forms of number of nouns often invisible. These difficulties be solved through the text or by logical reasoning. But,due to their different ways of thinking and aesthetic models, different translators may draw different conclusions from their reasoning.So it is within the realm of allowance that different translators use different subjects, tense of time and forms of number in translating one and the same poem or ci , so long as their translations are faithful to the original meaning and logically rational.
