图示理论与大学英语阅读

摘    要:本文以图示理论为基础 ,从中西文化差异出发 ,结合大学英语教学实践及现行的大学英语教材 ,分析了大学英语阅读中关于西方文化背景图示的缺乏所导致的种种理解障碍 ,以使学生们能够在学习语言知识的同时认识到扩充背景图示的重要性。

Abstract:One of the reasons why readers are not able to comprehend their reading materials is that they do not have the necessary background knowledge, the structure of which is called schemata according to the schema theory. Based on the author's teaching practice and the linguistic materials from different college English textbooks, this paper analyzes the comprehension barriers resulting from the lack of the proper schema on readers' part. It is hoped that the analysis will make students aware of the importance of enlarging their schema.
