论考察科学精神中清教主义传统的基本维度--西方传统知识分子基本精神倾向系列研究之导论

科学与宗教的关系显然是学者们无法回避、更不应该规避的重要议题。对于西方知识分子的精神传统而言，学术界特别是国内学术界还缺乏必要的系统的历史回溯。爱因斯坦洞察到了科学精神与宗教信仰式的精神气质的内在一致性，不过真正诱发人们去探究中世纪基督教与科学的真实精神关系的是默顿，尽管默顿命题存在诸多局限。研究表明，清教主义传统的生活方式和伦理态度等方面的精神气质对近现代科学精神的凝集起到了多方面的重要作用，而新教伦理对于科学精神的凝集并没有太大贡献。

The Basic Dimension to Examine the Puritan Heritage to the Spirit of Science--Introduction to Series Study of the General Mental Tendency of the Traditional Western Intellectuals

The relationship between science and religion is an important subject so scholars should not evade in their related research. The academic field, especiall in China, lacks systematic historical retrospection of the mental tradition of western intellectuals. Einstein had insight into the inherent consistency between the spirit of science and the religion-like mental ethos. Nevertheless, the one who eludes us to inquire the true relationship between the Medieval Christianity and （pre）science is Merton. Although there are many limitations to the Merton thesis, the traditional Puritan way of life and ethical attitude have played an important role in the condensation of the modern scientific spirit, while the Protestant ethics contributed little to it.
