当代西方元小说并非一味沉溺于语言嬉戏的艺术实验，而是文学批评、艺术实践和文化事件三个维度的动态综合。它首先是一个源自当代西方文学理论的批评建构，其中所体现的文本自反意识，与当代西方人文领域的反人本和反本质思潮具有同构性。与此同时，作为一种艺术实践，它又逃逸于刻板的理论归纳之外；它将内存于文学的悖论前景化，在艺术的自律和他律之间虚构了一个极具张力的诠释空间。然而，当艺术实践进入历史文化的辩证过程，以当代西方元小说为缩影的先锋意识开始与资本主义大众文化工业产生暧昧的互动，其原本蕴含的意识形态颠覆性则变得悬而未决。惟有对当代西方元小说进行辩证的多维度阐释，才能规避当下相关研究对其形式实验性的过度渲染。

Interpretation on the Three Dimensions of Metafiction

Instead of being an experimental art form that is exclusively obsessed with linguistic game,contemporary western metafiction is a dialectic synthesis of cultural criticism,artistic practice and cultural event.To begin with,it is a theoretical construct that stems from contemporary literary theory in the sense that the textual self-reflexivity it exhibits is synonymous with anti-humanism and anti-essentialism that were popular in the humanities in contemporary western world.Meanwhile,as an artistic practice,it is ever fleeing the narrow confines of theoretical discourse.By foregrounding the internal paradox of literature,metafiction creates a hermeneutic space that lies between autonomy and heteronomy.But as the art practice enters into the historical process,metafiction,which is a hallmark of contemporary avant-garde,stands in an ambiguous relationship with the mass culture industry,the result of which could be a weakening of its supposedly subversive potentials.Only through a dialectic understanding of metafiction could we circumvent the simplistic emphasis of current studies on the dimension of formal experiment.
