李德裕“奖拔孤寒”考论

唐代名相李德裕的选材方针颇令人费解。一方面,李德裕重用高门士族子弟,牛李党争中的李党代表了传统山东士族的利益;另一方面,李德裕又十分重视选拔孤寒之士,受到寒士的拥戴。这两种用人策略并不矛盾,唐代山东高门早就丧失了其北朝时期的经济基础和政治地位,沦为孤寒之士。李德裕所奖拔的孤寒之士多出自山东士族,社会地位崇高的唐代山东士族很多沦为孤寒。

On Li De-yus Personnel Policy of Selecting the Poor Scholar

The personnel policy of the famous Prime Minister Li De-yu in the Tang Dynasty is quite puzzling. On the one hand, he favors superior noblemen as is reflected in the power struggle of the Nius and the Lis; on the other hand, he attaches great importance to selecting poor scholars and for this he wins their support. The two personnel policies are not contradictory, however, because in the Tang Dynasty the Shandong Clan has lost its economic base and political status which they had in the Northern Dynasties and become the poor scholars. Most of the poor scholars selected by Li De-yu come from the Shandong Clan. A lot of Shandong nobles have lost their high social status and become poor in the Tang Dynasty.
