Balance and Difference: On the History of the Exchange between Chinese and Japanese literature

The unbalance in Chinese and Japanese modern and contemporary history and cultural development causes the unbalancing situation in the exchange between Chinese and Japanese literature. Which is shown by the fact that the two parties have rarely introduced the other's contemporary literature in time. When the pioneers of the new literature in the May 4th period in China introduced modern Japanese literature, they showned clear utilitarian purpose. When translating and introducing Chinese new literature, Japanese people saw it from the literary point of view, regardless of the social utilitarian value, since the modernization of the two countries' literature of this period had been completed, the two way literary exchange situation in its real modern sense began to form.
