中美大学生英语议论文中立场表达的比较

摘    要:话语立场反映言者对命题内容的主观意向。基于中国和美国大学生议论文语料,从形式、语义、归因、位置四个方面比较二者立场表达的特征。结果表明,中国大学生整体上过度表达立场,尤其是立场(半)情态动词、介词短语、状语子句过度使用,立场词汇贫乏,在句中位置不够灵活,过少表达认知来源或角度,主观立场过多,文章主观性强,有悖于书面语特征。

Abstract:Discourse stance expresses an addressor’s subjectivity toward a proposition.This study aims to compare and contrast the characteristics of stance expressions in Chinese and American college students’ argumentative essays in terms of form,semantics,attribution and position based on a corpus of some argumentative essays written by Chinese and American college students.The results show Chinese students’ overall overuse of stance expressions,particularly overuse of(semi-)modals,prepositional phrases and adverbial clauses;also,stance vocabulary is scarcely used and some cases are not syntactically flexibly used;Chinese students’ underuse of epistemic source/perspective and overuse of subjective attribution in the writing cause their failure to meet the requirement of objectivity of the written type of discourse.
