典故译介策略——以《浮生六记》两译本为例

典故是语言的精华与核心,具有鲜明的民族文化特色。由于中西语言和文化的差异,典故翻译是译者所遇到的最棘手的问题之一。《浮生六记》原著中有很多文化含义丰富的典故。拟以其两译本为例,探讨典故的不同翻译策略,旨在通过对具体译例的对比,分析译者处理典故时的做法与得失,并指出译者应恰当地处理典故的翻译问题。

Translation Stategies for Chinese Allusions --Illustrated by Examples from the Two English Versions of Six Chapters of a Floating Life

Embodying cultural peculiarity,allusions are the core and essnce of language. Due to the linguis- tic and cultural differences between Chinese and English, translating allusions is the one of the hardest nuts to crack for translators. In Six Chapters of a Floating Life, there are many allusions with rich cultural connotation. Illustrated by examples from its two English versions, this paper attempts to probe into different strategies for translating Chinese allusions into English. Through the comparison of the two English versions of allusion examples, it analyzes the gains and losses of different translation strategies and points out that translators should deal with problems arising in allusion translation properly.
