Brief Analysis of Roger Chilling worth in Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter

Traditionally,Roger Chillingworth is considered as a merciless,devilish avenger upon Dimmesdale,the adulterer in Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter.However,he has another side.This article is intended to dig out the original image of Chillingworth by analizing the similarities of Hawthorne's own family and The Scarlet Letter.This paper also aims at helping readers to have an overall apprehension of Chillingworth by probing the writing background and analyzing the reasons that the author denies.
