Falkner's Southern Womenhood in The Sound and the Fury

The Sound and the Fury is one of the most famous novels of Faulkner.In the novel,he describes the process of the family Compson from the prosperity to the decline and shows the end of an old times and the historical change of the South of the United States.There are three very important women in the novel,Mrs.Compson who is tortured by the Southern traditional ladyhood,Caddy with the rebellious spirit,and the last one is Dilsey who symbolizes the future of human being.By these three women,Faulkner expresses his view about women.He criticized Mrs.Compson,sympathized with Caddy and praised Dilsey.
