Abstract: | This chapter describes the work of the Gay and Lesbian Family Project (GLFP) at The Ackerman Institute for Family Therapy in New York City. Areas covered include: a description of the nature of The Project; a definition of lesbian, gay, and bisexual families; and description of the daily stress of “being family” in a heterosexist context; the genogram as a efficient tool for assessing individual and family needs; exploring disclosure in one's family of origin; and. finally, and summary of guidelines for the social service worker. |
