民族理论是民族研究中的一个分支学科。中国民族理论是根据中国民族的具体情况建立起来的民族理论学科体系。引导和教育广大学生正确地认识民族、宗教、国家、文化,树立正确的民族观、宗教观、国家观、文化观,能够在社会生活中正确地处理与其他民族成员的关系,等等,是民族理论课程的重要任务。民族理论与民族学、人类学、社会学、宗教学有密切的关联,民族理论学科的研究必须广泛地与这些学科联手,主动地汲取各门学科的知识来丰富和发展自己。
