动词在英语衔接中的作用

动词在构成英语的衔接机制中所起的作用是重要而独特的,主要表现在同类性和同延性衔接关系中,包括属于语法手段的“替代”、“省略”(同类关系)和属于词汇手段的“同现”、“复现”(同类或同延关系)等。其中尤其值得注意的是动词的时、体变化所形成的衔接机制。通过其独有的时、体形态变化,动词还有可能与其他词类(如名词)构成跨语法、词汇的衔接。这后两点或可解释某些以前被认为没有衔接机制而语义连贯的语段。

On Function of Verbs in English Cohesion

The function of verbs in the formation of cohesive devices in English is important and unique,which is mainly embodied in the cohesive devices of co-classification and co-extension,including substitution and ellipsis(co-classification),which belong to grammatical devices,and reiteration and collocation(either co-classification or co-extension),which belong to lexical devices.Special attention should be paid to the cohesive devices formed by changes in tenses and aspects of verbs.Through its unique formal changes of tenses and aspects,verbs may form cohesion which is both grammatical and lexical.The last two kinds of cohesive devices may account for some texts which were previously considered to have achieved coherence without any cohesive device.
