Translating Names of Chinese Dishes into English Based on a Contrastive Analysis

A contrastive analysis is made on the dietetic intention and dish naming of China and Western countries to find out the similarities and differences of their naming methods,especially the differences,which will lay a theoret-ical foundation for the translation of Chinese dishes into English.The paper analyzes the differences of the dietetic culture in China and Western counties,organizes the different and various names of Chinese dishes,and suggests the translation strategies to them.The study will help realize the standardization and agreement of the English version of the Chinese dish names and the spreading of the Chinese language and culture to other countries.The exact trans-lation of Chinese dish names into English will help the foreign visitors enjoy the special flavor in the dainty Chinese dishes and appreciate the connotations in the Chinese culture as well.
