The love in the Park -- On the Spatial Metaphor in Mansfield Park

In Mansfield Park, Jane Austin established three narrative settings, namely, Mansfield Park, Plymouth and London. With a comparison of the settings, the author exhibited the merits of the park as one of the settings - a cozy place to live in, a moral space where rituals are observed and courtesy is practiced - a happy home. By adopting many spatial metaphors, the novel eulogized the space of the Park and expressed her typical English ideal- the love for rural life, the favor for English gentlemanship and the advocacy for the traditional family ethic. Spatial criticisms proposed aimed at providing an insightful perspective in understanding ＂park＂, a distinctive image in the novel.
