| Abstract: | The purpose of this thesis is to explore the functions of code-switching in The Joy Luck Club. The author analyzes these functions with the adaptation theory in Pragmatics： filling the word gapping between English and Chinese, avoiding the social embarrassment, depicting the psychology of the characters, reflecting national characteristics, strengthening the mood, etc. |
