On the Heated Discussion of Population Problems in China in 1957

In 1957, when the national leaders of China realized that it was necessary to control the population growth and to carry out family plan, they delivered a series of speech on the population problems. After that, the theoretical circle had a thorough discussion of the population problems in China, and managed to reach a consensus on some important issues. This discussion settled the keynote of the population policy in contemporary China, provided a solid basis for the calculation and implementation of the present population policy, and accumulated rich theoretical knowledge about population problems, therefore enabling the resuscitation of population theory in the new era.
