| 摘 要： | 汉语成语,虽形制短小,却具有非常强的表现力。将汉语成语译成英文,并不是一件容易的事情。文章撷取了三个成语＂书香门第＂、＂画蛇添足＂、＂左右逢源＂,对其英文译法作了讨论;并对三本汉英词典中存在的误译现象作了辨析。

| Abstract: | For a translater it is a highly demanding job to translate a Chinese idiom into English owing to the cultural differences.In this paper,I take three Chinese idioms'scholar-bureaucrats stock','gild the lily',and'(perform)a balancing act'as examples.At the same time I correct the mistakes in Chinese-English dictionaries. |
