| Abstract: | Baorenanshu, a letter to Renan by Sima Qian, is an important letter in the study of Sima Qian and his thoughts as well as the wri ting of Shi Ji (Historical Records). In understanding the letter, one must under stand Sima Qian's attitude towards Ren An, the time the letter was written, and the life goal of Sima Qian after he suffered from the punishment of castration. |
