A Re-reading of Wang Wei --Reflections on "Bamboo Hall"

This thesis attempts to give Wang Wei and his poems a more apt and fair appraisal through the dissection of his various "historical problems". Approaching this ancient poet with human nature and sensibilities, the thesis reveals rich and varied emotions hidden in Wang Wei's works,shows that Wangwei, though acclaimed as "Poem Buddha" and "hermit", is actually a man of passion all his life, and displays that it is his sincere emotional connotation in his works that makes his poems overshadow those of any of his contemporaries except Li Bai and Du Fu in the Tang Dynasty.
