Anthropology and intercultural Communication

Initiated during the 1970s, intercultural communication owes a great deal not only to the greater convenience and higher frequency of international exchange brought about by the progress of modern transportation and communication technology but also to the long_term research work done by generations of anthropologists, sociologists and others in the fields of cultures and social behaviors pertaining to different nations. This paper, through surveying the eventual establishment of intercultural communication as a social science, endeavors to demonstrate the special role played by anthropology, especially by cultural anthropology, in the founding and development of this discipline.
