| Abstract: | This paper employs the pragmatic theories to analyze the dialogues from the short novel The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber,which shows that the application of the pragmatic theories to literary appreciation is helpful to fully understand the personalities and the minds of the characters,the relations between them in a specific context,and the development of the plot,and the author's artistic style. |
