Pragmatic Analysis of English Syntactic Deviation

Deviation is the language phenomenon against normal way of use or conventional language practice. Syntactic deviation is one of the important forms of linguistic deviation, often used in literature, advertisements and news reports. This paper attempts to explore the syntactic deviation and its rhetorical effect from the following aspects: semantic collocation, deviating grammatical rules, incomplete sentences, reversed and confused order. Finally it comes to the conclusion that the purpose of deviation is to create foregrounding and achieve special effects.
