梁启超《诗经》研究述略

A Summary of Liang Qichao's Study on Book of Odes

Although Liang Qichao had no strict systematic theory in his statement concerning Book of Odes, his study can be regarded as an important loop between the traditional and the modern studies of this classic work. He divided the odes into four types: the south songs, the folk songs, the festal songs and Hymns, and made detailed explanation respectively. He regarded the odes as the important historical materials for studying the history of Zhou Dynasty, believing that they provide an access to the mentality and life of Chinese nation at that time. He told the history of odeology from the height of an academic historian. In addition, he held some unique ideas about the literariness of the odes. In short, what he did was some pioneering work for later generations of scholars.
