| Abstract: | Beginning with a discussion of co-reference,this paper classifies relevant cohesive devices in discourses and texts into five parts, namely,repetition,partial repetition, substitution, ellipsis and lexical cohesion. An analysis is given to the above-mentioned devices. Other cohesive devices in discourses and texts-discourse marker and underlying semantic relation-are also introduced. |
