The Chahatai Descendants of Turpan and the Qing

The present paper undertakes a systematic allysurveys the relations between the chahatai descendants of Turpan and the Qing Administration, with the view that the tributary relationship between the chahatai descendants of Turpan and the Qing Administration marks the political and economic tie between the western Regions and the central plain. The paper concludes that the reunification and effective administration of the western regions by the Qing government after that of the Han, Tang and Yuan Dynasties is the inevitable outcome of historical development.
