Artistic modes in Chinese Fiction at the Turn of the century

The article argues that the Chinese fiction at the turn of the century is developing in a complicated, humanist context. Such a situation offers an unprecedentedly broad cultural background for the development of fiction, on the other hand, it also brings the writers of fiction into a perplexity from which they can hardly extricate themselves. On this ground , the author puts forward the arguement that Chinese fiction at the turn of the century should try to surmount realism, pursuing neo-rationalism of modern conscionsness and self-confidence and Orientalism.
