| Abstract: | As an important concept of fuzzy linguistics, hedges are essential part of vague language. The paper discuses definitions and classifications given by linguists at home and abroad to linguistic hedges, and expounds with numerous examples not only pragmatic functions of hedges, i. e. changing the truth-condition of a proposition, canceling conversational implicature, letting speakers observe politeness principle, but also phenomena that hedges are widely applied in daily communication, news report and literary works, etc. |
