Historical Changes in the Ethical Narrative of Chinese Films

With ethics taken as the standard in traditional culture, the Chinese film narrative has had strong ethics inclination. This inclination has obvious timely characteristics along with violent social changes. The Chinese films in the early days expressed social and ideological trend with ethical stories so as to achieve success economically and artistically. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the ethical discourse in films was replaced by revolutionary discourse and the film narrative was subordinate to politics. Since the 1980's, the change of the film environment has made it possible for the Chinese film industry to recapture and develop the ethical narrative while examining itself.
