An Overview of the Western Theories of International Migration in the 20th Century

The surge of the transnational migration tide has drawn a great deal of attention from scholars in many disciplines. There have been many theories concerning the factors underlining this phenomenon although the push-pull model is still widely adopted. This paper is an attempt to summarize and integrate the influential theories of international migration in the 20th century and in the last decades in particular. The author believes that a solid understanding of the relevant concepts and key assumptions proposed by the Western scholars is the basis of contributing to the argument.
