New Development and its Effect on Investment Relations between the Chinese Mainland and Taiwan Since 2000

Progress has been made in investment relations between the Chinese mainland (CM) and Taiwan against the background of complex international and domestic factors since 2000. Taiwanese investment in CM and has increased rapidly, and in scales and levels as well. Today CM has become the biggest area of investment for Taiwanese businesses, which have entered into the advanced stage of localized operation. Taiwanese investment in CM has become the key impetus for the development of cross-strait economic relation, and has taken the place of cross-strait trade to be the mainstream of economic cooperation between CM and Taiwan. The new development of investment relations fits in with the general trend of world economic development and reflects a strong trend of economic fusion of CM and Taiwan.
