The Trend of Alienation in Translation from the Perspective of Meme

By introducing and analyzing the lifecycle of meme, the present paper expounds that translation activities are the process of copying an alien meme and then transmitting it to the target culture. The translator, acting as a host who decodes the alien meme with the original language as its vector and is infected by the meme, encodes the meme into the target language vector. Domesticating translation of finding the similar meme in its native culture is an imperative way to copy the meme at the early stage of cultural contact, while alienating translation is the inevitable trend of translation for the sake of faithfully copying the meme complex of the original culture.
