当代比较文学形象学认为异国形象的真伪已经不再是关注的重点，而应转移到异国形象创作诸问题上。以此为出发点，从作家的角度对《大地》三部曲中“中国形象”的生成进行了细致的探讨。通过分析研究发现，独特的生活经历让赛珍珠在文化和身份认同时产生矛盾和焦虑，宗教的宽容使她希望人们在信仰上抛却狭隘和偏见，最终形成了她混杂的双重文化身份并由此思考它的文化意义。于是在提笔写作时，她开辟了一个阈限性写作空间，以自己的作品告诉人们，人和人是有同一性的，完全可以跨越种族和文化差异达到沟通和理解。《大地》三部曲中中国形象正是这三者融合的产物。
