面对后现代艺术的事实，丹托认为，现代主义艺术已经终结，这一历史进程实现了黑格尔关于“艺术终结”的预言。与之相关的，是以“美”为核心的古典关学的退场，转而需要建立一套全新的、具有普遍适用性的艺术哲学。它以意义为中心，以阐释为手段，以历史性、多元性和差异性为原则。虽应后现代的历史潮流而生，却以涵盖一切艺术现象为旨归。

The Reconstruction of Philosophy of Art in the Post-age——A review on "The End of Art" by Danto

Faced with the post-modernist art, Arthur Danto claims that the modernist art has ended, which corresponds to Hegel＇s prediction of ＂the End of Art＂. As a result, classical aesthetics which focuses on ＂beauty＂ began to withdraw, replaced by a new type of philosophy of art with universal application, which takes sense as the centre, interpretation as the means, and historicity, diversity and difference as the principle. Though it follows the trend of post-modernism, it is related to all arts.
