海派的文化位置及与中国现代通俗文学之关系

鸳鸯蝴蝶派文学同海派文学,不是源与流的关系。鸳鸯蝴蝶派和海派在很长时间里是两股文学流。海派自产生之日起便是"现代性"文学的一部分,鸳鸯蝴蝶派则有一个较长的获得"现代性"的演变过程。海派以展露现代文明条件下人的生存与物质关系为基本母题,鸳蝴通俗社会小说却缺乏独特的眼光和生命的体验。海派的两性文学,从生理搏动到包孕现代生命哲学,都市人的内在心理冲突均得到充分的展示;而鸳鸯蝴蝶派的言情文学,长久地在"传统道德"的圈子里打转。鸳鸯蝴蝶派对都市的看法远远落后,海派的都市意识具某种超前性质。在全部或部分地走向"通俗"这一方面,海派和鸳鸯蝴蝶派倒是最有接近点的。但两派的思想意识仍不在一个层次上。人为地去规定纯文学和通俗文学的结合是不会奏效的。

Position of Hay Pai Literature and Its Relationship With Modern Chinese Popular Fiction

The relationship between Yuan Hu and Hai Pai fiction is not that of source and current. They have been two distinct groups of literature. The former has a long period of development while the latter became a part of modern literature from the very beginning. The theme of Hay Pai is the relationship between man and material things under modern civilization. Yuan Hu fictions lack unique perspective and experience. Hai Pai explored sexual topics and the philosophy of life and demonstrated city people's psychological conflicts. Yuan Hu is restricted with the limits of traditional ethics and is lagged behind in its understanding of city life while Hai Pai is the avant guard . Both has a tendency towards popularity but can never be positioned on the same level of perspicacity and therefore the combination of two is inappropriate.
