谈数词在英语习语中的运用

在认真分析大量英语数词习语实例的基础上，指出数词在英语习语中主要有单用、连用、重复、对举、变倍使用等多种形式，并对各种形式逐一作了阐述说明。在此基础上进一步探讨了数调在英语习语中所具有的表示多少、相等、替代、实指数量等语义功能，同时指出，除反映客观事物的数量之外，数词还可以用作修辞手段，增强语言的艺术表现力，并着重分析了利用数词表示夸张、比喻、对比、委婉、借代等几种修辞功能。

A Tentative Studs of Numerals in the English Idioms

This paper presents a tentaive study of the formative patterns, the Semantic and rhetoric functions of numerals in the English idiomatic expressions. The formative pattems mainly include the separate or repeated use of one numeral and the use of two of more numerals in succession or antithesis. A large number of the idioms are only comprised of numerals . In the semantic aspects, numerals are also exploited to indicate an equalized, understated or exaggerated degree and quantity, to record an actual figure, or even to substitute for a certain Kind of people. In addition,numerals can also be adopted as a means to achieve many rhetorical effects such as hyperbole, understatemnt,metaphor, anithesis, euphemism and so on.
