| Abstract: | The paper is an attempt to make a study of irony from the perspective of pragmatics. At first, it explains the nature of irony. Then, in the frame of pragmatics, it analyzes the inducing mechanism and applying motives of irony using cooperative principle, politeness principle and principle of relevance. |
